Language Arts 7D and 7C

Both Language Arts groups are working in the unit Fears and Phobias. The students will complete 12 stations with a partner over the next couple of weeks. Students are encouraged to work hard during class time as there will not be homework (other than reading) during this unit of study.

Math 8D and 8E

Both math groups are working in Chapter 10 - Solving linear Equations

There will be a test next week on this Chapter. Both classes will write Tuesday, June 8th.

Also, students should be reviewing their notes and first 10 chapters of the text as there will be a final math assessment, written by all grade 8 students, June 17th.

Math 8D and 8E

Students are completing Chapter 9 this week and will be writing their test next week.

8E - Monday, May 17th, 2010
8D - Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Also, both classes should have their Math Links for Chapter 9 handed in.

Language Arts 7C and 7D

We are continuing to work through the Mystery Unit. Presently the students are working on three assignments - 1) a voice over script: due Monday, May 3rd
2) a mystery story: due Monday, May 3rd and
3) a photo essay - this assignment is being completed in the school computer
lab.

Math 8D and 8E

Students have received their marks for the Chapter 8 test. A couple of students still have to write so the test itself will not be sent home until Monday.

We have started Chapter 9 and students are working on the Show You Know for the opening section.

8E - questions 4, 6, 8, 10, 16 and 17 are for homework. Also, the Math Link on page 341 is due Monday, May 3rd.

Language Arts 7D and 7C

Both Language Arts classes have completed their library stations and are now focising on a novel study and short story.

7C Novels are to be completed by Tuesday, April 13th - Photo stories project will start in the computer lab on Tuesday.

7D Novels are to be completed by Tuesday, April 20th - Photo stories project will start in the computer lab on April 20th.

Children's Mystery stories - students should have their idea, a developed main character, the problem and a list of solutions as well as a number of clues by Monday, April 12th. We will continue to devlop their story idea over the next couple of weeks.

Math 8E and 8D

Students are working on learning how to multiply and divide intergers, Chapter 8.

There will be a test next week; Wednesday, April 21 (8E) and Thursday, April 22 (8D).

Language Arts 7C and 7D

The LA groups have started a new Mystery unit. There are a lot of fun and interesting activities that both groups will be participating in.

Both classes have been working in the library on stations which will be completed early next week.

During this theme each student will be required to complete a Mystery novel project as well as to write a mystery story. A lot of this work will be completed in school but please remind students to read each night.

Math 8D and 8E

Both math classes have finished Chapter 7 and completed the chapter test.

We will be working on Chapter 8 for the next few weeks.

Language Arts 7C and 7D

Both Language Arts classes are finishing up the Tech Effects Unit.

Next Thursday, March 4th, there will be a test covering material learned within this unit. Also, we will be starting a Narrative piece of writing which will be due the following week.

We had a library class this week and all students should have a new novel. Please remind your child to read 20 minutes a night. Thanks.

Math 8E and 8D

Both Math classes completed the Chapter 5 test - look for it to becoming home early next week.

We are now starting Chapter 7 - Volume.

Students have been presenting their novels studies this past week and we have been treated to some outstanding technological productions!

Students are working on the Math Review and Practise test for Chapter 4 in preparation for their test next week.

8D - Wednesday Feb. 24th - Day 3

Students that have completed the chapter are working on 3D models of miniture cities.

Math 8D and 8E

Both math classes have begun Chapter 5, Surface Area. We have been exploring 3D objects, their nets and surface areas.

Students have also been looking at planning a miniture community and the shapes and sizes the buildings would need to be if created.

Language Arts 7D and 7C

1. Novel Studies - students should be finishing up their novel studies that are being presented Monday, February 8th. I am really looking forward to seeing how each student has included technology into their report.

2. Writing assignment - Due February 10th. Students have chosen a topic, to do with some aspect of technology, that they will write a report on. The report should utilize one of the four methods of organization that we have been studying.

We are starting a new theme called "Tech Effects". This theme will provide an opportunity for students to continue to develop their reading and writing skills as they read about technological changes and how they affect people. They will learn

• how to ask questions as they read
• how to organize ideas in their writing
• how to deliver oral presentations effectively
• how to ask questions to evaluate media texts
• the characteristcs of the narrative text
• word study skills (prepositions, text messaging short hand, comma usage, forming adjectives from nouns, and appositives and commas).

A novel study has been assigned and each student has chosen a novel of their choice to read. Presentations will begin on February 8th, 2010. Students should be reading about 20 minutes a night. If you have any questions about this assignment please call (888 8470) or email.
